Updated Information on Measles Vaccines

CHILDREN

Routine: 2 doses in a lifetime

  • 1st dose: 12- 15months of age
  • 2nd dose: 4 years of age

Exceptions:

  • Patients can get a vaccine as early as 6 months of age, or can receive their second routine dose early. Please call your provider to discuss this option. SHS pharmacy will only vaccinate out of routine if we have an order from a prescriber.

ADULTS:

Considered IMMUNE (no further doses needed)

  • adults born before 1957 (except healthcare personnel) *
  • adults born 1957 or later who are not high risk and who have already received ONE or more documented doses of live measles vaccine
  • adults with laboratory evidence of immunity

Should get ONE dose of M-M-R vaccine

  • adults born in 1957 or later who are not high risk and have NO documented vaccination with live measles vaccine OR no laboratory evidence of immunity

Should get 2 doses of M-M-R vaccine

  • High-risk adult with NO prior documented live measles vaccination and NO laboratory evidence of immunity including:
  • -healthcare personnel*
  • -international travelers born in 1957 or later
  • -people attending colleges and other post-high school educational institutions

HIGH RISK: international traveler, healthcare worker, or person attending college or other post-high school educational institution. Risk is not a reflection of health status or comorbidities.

- No “booster” doses are recommended
